Yung Lean and GENER8ION brought STORM to the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27, delivering a performance inspired by the song’s distinctive short film. During the ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the pair translated the project’s school setting and choreography to the VMA stage.
The performance marked Yung Lean and GENER8ION’s first appearance at the awards show. As presented during the broadcast, Lean wore a schoolboy-style outfit while a large group of dancers moved around him in tightly synchronized choreography. The staging also leaned into the surreal energy associated with STORM, including a moment in which Lean smashed a Moon Person trophy.
STORM arrived earlier in 2026 with a short film set at a fictional British boarding school in 2034. Directed by Romain Gavras, the visual features choreography by Damien Jalet and helped give the collaboration a strong visual identity.
The project entered the VMAs with four nominations, including Video of the Year, Best Long Form Video, Best Direction, and Best Choreography. The performance also served as Yung Lean’s U.S. television performance debut.
